Unifon has finalized an agreement to take over the operations of SMB Mobil, transferring 8,500 business customers and 15,000 mobile users from the small and medium-sized enterprise segment. The move marks Unifon’s second acquisition of a Norwegian mobile operator in recent years, expanding its market presence in the SMB sector.
The transition is scheduled to begin immediately, with SMB Mobil’s existing services and contracts being integrated into Unifon’s infrastructure. Customers will retain their current mobile plans and numbers, though they will receive updated terms and conditions from Unifon within the next 30 days. The company has confirmed that no service disruptions are expected during the transfer process.
Unifon’s CEO, Lars Pettersen, stated that the acquisition aligns with the company’s strategy to strengthen its position in the competitive Norwegian mobile market. He added that SMB Mobil’s customer base complements Unifon’s existing portfolio, particularly in regions where the company has limited coverage. Pettersen emphasized that the deal would not result in job losses for SMB Mobil’s employees, as they will transition to Unifon’s workforce.
Industry analysts note that the acquisition reflects broader consolidation trends in Norway’s telecom sector. Last year, Unifon acquired another regional operator, further consolidating its market share. The Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom) has been notified of the deal and is reviewing the terms to ensure compliance with competition regulations.
The integration process is expected to take up to six months, during which time Unifon will focus on seamless customer onboarding and technical harmonization. Existing SMB Mobil users will receive direct communication about the changes, including instructions for accessing Unifon’s customer support channels.
