Ukraine’s Framingo missile developer has announced plans to introduce a ballistic missile defense system by the end of 2027. The system aims to counter threats from ballistic missiles, filling a critical gap in Ukraine’s air defense capabilities amid ongoing conflict.
The company, known for its short-range rocket systems, has been working on the project for over two years. Development accelerated after Russia’s intensified missile strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure. The new system is expected to integrate with existing air defense networks, including Western-supplied systems like Patriot.
According to company officials, the system will use domestic components to reduce costs and dependency on foreign suppliers. While specific technical details remain undisclosed, the project has received government backing, signaling its strategic importance.
Ukraine’s defense ministry has not yet commented on deployment timelines or operational roles. Analysts suggest the system could complement NATO-standard systems in the region, though its effectiveness remains to be tested in combat conditions.
The announcement follows Ukraine’s push to expand its domestic arms production. Earlier this year, the country unveiled plans for a new drone defense network, further reducing reliance on imported military technology.
