Uber will begin picking up customer returns from their doorsteps starting next month. The new feature is part of the company’s push to offer a broader range of services beyond ride-hailing and food delivery. Customers will schedule returns through the Uber app, and drivers will collect packages at a specified time.
The service targets people who frequently return items bought online. Currently, most returns require dropping off packages at stores or shipping centers, which can be inconvenient. Uber’s move aims to simplify the process by integrating returns into its existing logistics network. The company did not disclose how many drivers will participate initially.
This expansion follows Uber’s recent addition of grocery delivery in several cities. The company now competes directly with Amazon and other delivery giants. Uber’s CEO confirmed the returns feature during a conference call last week, stating it could increase driver earnings by up to 15% in some markets.
Industry analysts see this as a strategic move to retain users within Uber’s ecosystem. The company has faced criticism for high service fees in ride-hailing. By offering returns pickup, Uber may attract more frequent users who currently rely on competitors for returns.
The feature will roll out in select U.S. cities first, with plans to expand globally by the end of the year. Uber has not yet announced pricing for the returns service.
