Tubi CEO Farbood Nivi announced on Tuesday that the free ad-supported streaming service has become the first to launch a native app inside ChatGPT, the AI chatbot developed by OpenAI. The integration allows users to access Tubi’s library of over 50,000 movies and TV shows directly within ChatGPT without leaving the platform. Nivi stated that this move aligns with the company’s strategy to expand beyond traditional streaming methods by leveraging AI-driven platforms.
The app integration was developed in collaboration with OpenAI and is available to all ChatGPT users starting today. According to Nivi, the feature was designed to provide seamless access to entertainment content while maintaining the conversational flow of the chatbot. Users can now search, browse, and play Tubi’s content without switching apps or disrupting their ChatGPT sessions.
Industry analysts see this as a significant step for both AI and streaming services. A spokesperson for OpenAI confirmed the integration and noted that Tubi’s app is the first to meet their technical requirements for native deployment within ChatGPT. The move could set a precedent for other streaming platforms to follow, especially as AI tools become more integrated into daily digital interactions.
Tubi, owned by Fox Corporation, has been expanding its footprint in the streaming market by focusing on free, ad-supported content. The service competes with platforms like Pluto TV and The Roku Channel, but this latest integration could give it a unique edge. Nivi emphasized that the goal is to make Tubi more accessible to users who already rely on ChatGPT for information and entertainment discovery.
