AUSTIN, Texas — Tesla has introduced a new feature in its software update this week that allows drivers to track how often they use the Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta software. The update includes metrics such as streaks, which measure consecutive days of FSD activation. Other statistics include total miles driven with the system engaged and average daily usage time.
The company also simplified the process for subscribing to the advanced driver assistance system. Previously, users had to navigate multiple menus to enable FSD. Now, a single button in the car’s touchscreen interface activates the subscription. Tesla stated the change aims to reduce friction for customers testing the beta software.
The new tracking feature appears in the vehicle’s Settings menu under the Autopilot section. Drivers can view their usage data alongside safety reports and performance metrics. Tesla has not announced whether these statistics will influence insurance pricing or eligibility for future updates.
The update coincides with Tesla’s push to expand FSD testing beyond its initial group of early adopters. The company has faced scrutiny over the safety and reliability of its autonomous driving claims. Regulators and safety advocates continue to question the terminology used to describe the system’s capabilities.
Tesla did not respond to requests for comment on whether these changes address concerns about driver overreliance on FSD.
