Stripe has introduced a new feature that allows agents to make payments directly through Link’s wallet system. This update enables agents to access programmatic payment tools such as generating a one-time-use card or a Shared Payment Token (SPT). Both options are backed by existing payment methods already stored in the user’s wallet, including cards and bank accounts. The integration is built on Stripe’s Issuing for agents platform, which expands the functionality of its payment infrastructure.
The move addresses a long-standing gap in agent-based payment systems, where intermediaries often lacked direct access to a user’s stored payment methods. Previously, agents had to rely on manual processes or limited API access to facilitate transactions. With this update, agents can now initiate payments programmatically, reducing friction in workflows that involve recurring or delegated payments.
Stripe’s Issuing for agents is part of a broader push to streamline payment automation for businesses that operate with distributed teams or third-party representatives. The feature is particularly relevant for industries such as gig economy platforms, travel agencies, and corporate expense management, where agents frequently handle payments on behalf of others.
The one-time-use card option ensures security by limiting exposure of primary payment details. Meanwhile, the Shared Payment Token allows multiple agents to access a single tokenized payment method without sharing sensitive information. Both tools are designed to comply with PCI DSS standards, ensuring that payment data remains protected.
Stripe has not disclosed specific adoption metrics for the feature but states it is available immediately for existing Issuing customers. The company plans to expand functionality based on user feedback and industry demand.
