A new competition for the E39 Blørstad-Lyngdal highway project opens on Monday, with a total budget of five billion Norwegian kroner. The project is part of Nye Veier AS’s ongoing expansion of the national road network. Construction is expected to begin within two years, pending contractor selection and environmental approvals.
The Blørstad-Lyngdal segment is one of several major infrastructure initiatives along the E39 corridor, which connects Trondheim to Kristiansand. This stretch alone spans approximately 40 kilometers and includes upgrades to bridges and tunnels. Officials say the project aims to reduce travel time by up to 20 minutes between key regional hubs.
Nye Veier AS confirmed the tender process will follow standard public procurement rules. Contractors must meet strict technical and financial criteria. The agency has allocated an additional 500 million kroner for unexpected costs during construction.
The highway expansion aligns with Norway’s long-term transport strategy, which prioritizes safer and more efficient road connections. Earlier phases of the E39 project have already reduced accident rates by 15% in upgraded areas.
Public hearings will take place next month before final bids are submitted in December. The winning bidder is expected to be announced in early 2025.
