Astropad on Tuesday unveiled Workbench, a remote desktop tool designed for AI agents rather than traditional IT support. The software enables users to monitor and control AI agents running on Mac Minis from an iPhone or iPad, using low-latency streaming and mobile access.
Workbench addresses a gap in remote management for AI workloads, which often require physical access or complex setups. Unlike conventional remote desktop tools, it focuses on AI agents—software that performs tasks without direct human input. This shift reflects growing demand for tools that support autonomous systems in labs, data centers and edge locations.
The system streams the AI agent’s interface in real time, allowing users to adjust configurations, troubleshoot issues and deploy updates remotely. Astropad says latency is kept below 30 milliseconds, comparable to local performance. The company tested Workbench with AI research teams in universities and corporate labs before launch.
Workbench runs on Mac Minis equipped with Apple’s M-series chips. It requires iOS 17 or iPadOS 17 on the mobile device. Astropad has not announced pricing or a release date beyond a planned beta program this summer.
The tool arrives as AI deployments expand beyond cloud servers into smaller, distributed devices. Companies are deploying AI agents in factories, retail stores and research sites where physical access is limited.
