Two engineering firms, Amentum and Multiconsult, say Norway could have its first nuclear reactors online by 2040. Their timeline assumes regulatory and political hurdles are cleared in time. The companies presented the assessment to Norwegian energy stakeholders this week. They argue small modular reactors fit Norway’s grid better than large traditional plants. Their report cites falling costs and improved safety records as key drivers. Norway currently relies almost entirely on hydropower for electricity.
