Nscale has expanded its agreement with Microsoft for the Narvik data center and purchased 30,000 Nvidia Rubin graphics processors. The deal is valued at approximately 13 billion Norwegian kroner.
The investment follows Microsoft’s push to scale up AI infrastructure in Norway. The new processors will be deployed at Nscale’s Narvik facility, which serves as a key hub for Microsoft’s cloud and AI services in the region. Officials confirmed the expansion will increase the center’s computational capacity significantly.
Nvidia’s Rubin chips are the latest generation of graphics processors designed for AI workloads. Microsoft and Nscale have not disclosed specific performance metrics but stated the upgrade will enable faster training of large language models and other demanding AI applications.
The Norwegian government has supported the project through tax incentives and infrastructure agreements. Local officials in Narvik welcomed the investment, citing job creation and economic growth as immediate benefits.
The expansion aligns with Norway’s broader strategy to position itself as a leader in sustainable data center operations, leveraging renewable energy sources in the Arctic region.
