OSLO Stock Exchange will today welcome Kongsberg Maritime as a newly listed company. The maritime division of Kongsberg Gruppen has been spun off into an independent entity ahead of the initial public offering. Trading under the ticker KMAR will begin at 09:00 CET. The move follows a strategic decision announced in March to separate the business unit from its parent company.
The IPO values Kongsberg Maritime at approximately NOK 15 billion. Existing shareholders will retain a 60% stake, while new investors will acquire the remaining 40%. The proceeds will fund expansion in autonomous shipping and underwater robotics. The company employs about 3,200 people across 25 countries.
Chief Executive Geir Håøy confirmed the listing marks a significant step in the company’s growth strategy. He stated that the spin-off allows Kongsberg Maritime to pursue larger contracts independently. The company specializes in navigation systems, marine automation, and subsea technology. Its products are used in commercial vessels, offshore energy platforms, and research expeditions.
Analysts highlight the timing as favorable due to rising demand for green shipping solutions. The maritime sector is under pressure to reduce emissions, and Kongsberg Maritime offers technologies that support this transition. The IPO follows similar listings in Norway’s defense and technology sectors over the past year.
The listing comes as Kongsberg Gruppen focuses on its core defense and aerospace divisions. The remaining company will continue to operate under the original name, while Kongsberg Maritime will trade separately on the Oslo exchange.
