Tehran – The government of Iran announced on Sunday plans to strike US-linked artificial intelligence data centers with ballistic missiles. The warning follows a series of escalations in tensions between Iran and the United States over the past week.
A statement from Iran’s Ministry of Defense said the targets include facilities involved in Stargate AI, a project described by US officials as critical to national security. The ministry did not specify locations but stated the operation would begin within 72 hours unless US forces withdraw from the Persian Gulf.
The US State Department confirmed it had received intelligence about the threat but declined to comment on specific targets. A spokesperson said Washington remains committed to defending its infrastructure and allies in the region.
Tensions have risen after the US deployed an aircraft carrier strike group to the Gulf of Oman on Friday. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard responded by conducting naval exercises near the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route. Analysts warn the situation could lead to direct confrontation if neither side steps back.
The Stargate AI project, first reported in 2025, involves large-scale data processing centers in Virginia, Texas, and California. US officials have previously called it essential for countering cyber threats and maintaining military readiness.
