Social media users who have ever rushed to fix a typo in a comment will no longer need to delete and repost. Instagram has rolled out a feature that lets users edit their comments after posting, a change many have requested for years.
The update was confirmed by Meta in a blog post on Tuesday. Users can now tap and hold a comment to access an edit option, then make changes and save them. The edit history will be visible to others, though previous versions are not stored.
This feature was first spotted in testing by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi in March. At the time, the edit button appeared only after a comment received at least one like, suggesting the company was still refining the rollout. Meta has not provided details on when the feature will be available to all users globally.
The change follows Instagram’s recent updates to Stories and direct messaging, where editing functions were introduced earlier. Comments are a core part of social media interactions, and typos or misplaced words often lead to awkward corrections. Before this, users had to delete comments entirely to fix errors, which removed the original context for others.
Meta has not commented further on the feature’s expansion or potential limitations. The company typically tests new tools with subsets of users before broader releases.
