Instacart announced on Monday it has acquired Instaleap, a logistics startup specializing in same-day delivery networks. The deal gives the U.S.-based grocery delivery giant immediate access to international markets without the need to build delivery infrastructure from scratch.
The acquisition follows Instacart’s push to expand beyond North America. By integrating Instaleap’s delivery scheduling technology, Instacart can now offer enterprise clients in Europe and Asia a ready-made network. The company did not disclose financial terms. Instaleap operates in five countries, including Germany, France, and Japan.
Instacart CEO Fidji Simo said the move accelerates the company’s global enterprise strategy. We want to serve large retailers who need fast delivery across multiple regions, she said in a statement. Instaleap’s platform allows businesses to coordinate real-time courier assignments, reducing delays in urban areas.
Analysts say the acquisition reflects a trend among gig economy platforms to acquire local expertise rather than expand organically. Instaleap’s existing contracts with local courier services in key cities provide Instacart with instant credibility. The deal also eliminates months of regulatory and operational hurdles in new markets.
Instacart has not yet announced layoffs or office closures related to the acquisition. The company plans to integrate Instaleap’s team into its global operations over the next six months.
