Google has introduced its Gemini Personal Intelligence feature in India, enabling users to connect their Gmail and Google Photos accounts to receive personalized answers. The tool processes data from these services to generate responses based on the user’s emails, calendar events, and stored images.
The feature is part of Google’s broader push to integrate AI into everyday digital workflows. Users can ask the assistant questions like planning a trip or summarizing past conversations without manually searching through messages or files. Google states the system prioritizes privacy, with data processed locally on the device when possible.
India marks the latest expansion for the feature, which previously rolled out in select markets. The company did not disclose user adoption numbers but emphasized compatibility with existing Google account holders. Competitors like Microsoft and Apple also offer similar AI assistants, though Google’s approach relies more heavily on cross-service integration.
The launch comes as Google faces scrutiny over AI data usage. Officials confirmed the feature complies with local data protection laws, including India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act. Users must opt in to enable account linking, and can revoke access anytime through Google’s settings menu.
