Google Chrome Launches New Productivity Features Amid Intensifying Browser Competition

Google Chrome has introduced three new features to enhance user productivity as competition in the web browser market intensifies. The updates include Split View, PDF annotations, and a Save to Google Drive option, aiming to deepen integration with Google’s suite of services.
The Split View feature allows users to view two web pages side-by-side within a single tab, facilitating multitasking such as watching videos while taking notes or comparing content. Users can activate this by dragging a tab to the window’s edge or right-clicking a link to open it in Split View, with an easy exit option available.
Chrome’s new PDF annotations feature enables users to add notes, highlight text, and perform basic edits directly within the browser, eliminating the need to download files for editing. This addition streamlines tasks like digitally signing documents or filling out forms.
Additionally, the Save to Google Drive feature allows PDFs to be saved directly to a dedicated "Saved from Chrome" folder in the user’s Drive account, reducing the risk of lost files on local devices.
These updates follow Google’s recent integration of its Gemini AI assistant into Chrome and come amid growing competition from AI-driven browsers developed by companies like OpenAI and Perplexity. Google is also testing vertical tabs, a feature popularized by alternative browsers, to further enhance user experience and retain its user base.
