Globalconnect has completed upgrades to several fiber routes connecting Norway and Sweden. The company’s cable director says the work was needed to handle growing data traffic from data centers and new international cables.
The upgrades increase capacity on routes that link key cities like Oslo and Stockholm. Globalconnect did not disclose the exact bandwidth increase but stated the changes support rising demand from hyperscale data centers in the region.
Norway and Sweden host some of Europe’s largest data center clusters. These facilities rely on high-speed fiber links to handle cloud services, AI workloads, and cross-border digital traffic. The upgraded routes are part of a broader push to future-proof infrastructure as demand grows.
Globalconnect operates one of the largest fiber networks in the Nordic region. The company has invested in similar upgrades in recent years, including links to Denmark and Germany. These efforts reflect a shift toward higher-capacity networks to meet the needs of digital services.
The upgrades were completed ahead of schedule, according to the company. No service disruptions were reported during the work.
