Glean, initially launched as an enterprise search tool, is evolving into an AI work assistant designed to integrate with internal systems, manage permissions, and deliver intelligence to employees across organizations. The company seeks to establish itself as the foundational AI layer within enterprises, supporting various AI applications rather than competing directly with them. This strategic positioning comes amid increasing competition from major technology firms like Microsoft and Google, which offer bundled AI solutions. In June, Glean secured $150 million in funding, valuing the startup at $7.2 billion. During a discussion at Web Summit Qatar, Glean CEO Arvind Jain highlighted how enterprises are approaching AI architecture, the challenges of permissions and governance, and the ongoing consolidation within the AI agent market. The company’s approach addresses complex issues around AI adoption, leadership, and organizational design as businesses integrate AI more deeply into their workflows.
