A technical fault in Telia’s network has caused delays for emergency calls in Norway. Some users waited up to 30 seconds before their calls connected to emergency services. The issue affected 13,000 calls reported on Tuesday.
The problem emerged when a man named Johannes tried to call an ambulance after his wife suffered a sudden illness. His call initially connected but then went dead. When he dialed again, the line took nearly half a minute to go through. Emergency operators confirmed the delay but could not explain the cause immediately.
Telia acknowledged the issue and said technicians were investigating. The company did not specify how long the fault had been active or how widespread it was. Emergency services in Norway use the 113 number for medical emergencies, and delays in reaching operators can have serious consequences.
Regulators at the Norwegian Communications Authority have been notified. They will review the incident and decide if further action is needed. The authority has asked Telia for a full report on the outage.
This is not the first time emergency call delays have occurred in Norway. In 2022, a similar issue with Telenor’s network caused delays for calls to 112 and 113. Authorities then tightened rules for mobile operators to ensure faster emergency response times.
