Blizzard Entertainment has launched the first major expansion for Diablo IV, titled Lord of Hatred. The update places the demon Mephisto at the center of a new story arc that deepens the game’s dark fantasy setting. Players will explore the Skovos Islands, a newly added region that expands the game’s map. The expansion also introduces two new playable classes, expanding combat variety for both campaign and endgame content.
Lord of Hatred follows the 2023 release of Diablo IV and continues the series’ tradition of demonic lore. Mephisto, one of the three Prime Evils from the original Diablo games, returns as a key antagonist. The expansion’s narrative focuses on his influence over the world of Sanctuary, weaving new quests and lore into the existing campaign.
Gameplay changes in Lord of Hatred aim to enhance long-term progression. The expansion modifies existing systems to offer deeper strategic options for high-level players. These include adjustments to loot drops, skill trees, and endgame activities such as dungeons and PvP modes. The goal is to provide more meaningful choices as players advance through the game’s later stages.
The Skovos Islands introduce a tropical environment that contrasts with Diablo IV’s usual gothic landscapes. This new setting includes unique enemies, dungeons, and environmental hazards that challenge players in different ways. The expansion also adds new legendary items and crafting options, giving players more ways to customize their characters.
Blizzard has not yet announced a release date for Lord of Hatred but has confirmed it will follow the same model as previous Diablo expansions, with a full rollout over several weeks.
