The AI division of Databricks announced a new feature for its Genie platform on Tuesday. The company calls it Agent mode, designed to automate tasks within its Genie spaces environment.
According to a blog post, the feature allows users to create and deploy AI agents directly inside Genie spaces. These agents can perform actions like data processing, code generation, and workflow execution without manual input. The company says the update aims to reduce repetitive tasks in data engineering and machine learning workflows.
Databricks’ team developed Agent mode over the past six months. The feature integrates with existing Genie tools, including SQL notebooks and data pipelines. Users can configure agents to run specific jobs, such as cleaning datasets or training models, and monitor progress through the same interface.
The announcement follows Databricks’ push to expand its AI capabilities beyond traditional data analytics. Earlier this year, the company introduced Databricks Model Serving, which simplifies deploying machine learning models. The addition of Agent mode signals a shift toward more autonomous AI systems within the platform.
The feature is available immediately for users with access to Genie spaces. Databricks did not disclose a timeline for broader rollout.
