A German aerospace startup has secured €25.7 million in its latest funding round to develop vehicles capable of transporting cargo between Earth and orbit and back. ATMOS Space Cargo, based in Lichtenau, announced the completion of its Series A financing on Monday. The round was co-led by Balnord and Expansion, with additional investment from Keen Defence and Security. The European Innovation Council (EIC) also participated through its Accelerator program, combining grant funding with equity investment.
The company plans to use the funds to advance its orbital transport vehicles and re-entry capsules, which are designed for multiple uses. These systems aim to reduce the cost of sending supplies and experiments to space and returning them safely to Earth. ATMOS focuses on building scalable logistics infrastructure for commercial and scientific missions.
ATMOS has already completed initial tests of its re-entry technology. The company’s goal is to establish a reliable transport link between Earth and low Earth orbit within the next five years. Industry experts see this as a step toward making space logistics more accessible for businesses and research institutions.
The new funding will also support hiring and expanding production facilities in Germany. ATMOS currently employs around 50 people and expects to double its workforce by the end of 2025. The company has not disclosed further details about upcoming test flights or commercial contracts.
