Apple Unveils Significant Performance Boost in Latest MacBook Pro 14 M5 Pro Model
Article Content
Apple’s latest MacBook Pro 14-inch model equipped with the M5 Pro chip delivers a substantial performance upgrade, setting a new standard for portable professional laptops. This iteration, expected to be the last in the current design before a major update featuring OLED displays and touch capabilities later this year, enhances both processing power and storage efficiency.
Priced at 58,240 Norwegian kroner, the MacBook Pro 14 M5 Pro features an 18-core CPU, 20-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine, supported by 64 GB of unified memory and a 4 TB SSD. The 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display offers a resolution of 3024 x 1964 pixels, 120 Hz ProMotion refresh rate, and peak brightness of 1600 nits HDR. Additional hardware highlights include a 12MP Center Stage camera, six-speaker sound system with spatial audio, and extensive connectivity options such as three Thunderbolt 5 ports and Wi-Fi 7.
The design remains unchanged from previous models, maintaining the familiar professional layout with HDMI, SD card slot, MagSafe 3, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The choice between the 14-inch and 16-inch models hinges on user preference for portability versus screen real estate, with the larger model weighing 2.14 kg compared to 1.60 kg for the 14-inch version.
Performance improvements are especially notable in AI processing, where Apple has integrated Neural Accelerators directly into each GPU core alongside the dedicated Neural Engine. This architecture significantly enhances local AI workloads, facilitating smoother operation of large language models and other advanced applications. Disk performance has also doubled compared to the previous M4 Pro generation, further enhancing overall system responsiveness.
While the MacBook Air M5 offers strong value with improved NVMe speeds and starts at a lower price point, the MacBook Pro’s 120 Hz display and superior brightness provide distinct advantages for professional users. The upcoming transition to OLED screens later this year is anticipated to further elevate the MacBook Pro lineup’s visual experience.
